Understanding roles

The 12-role taxonomy, what each role can do, and how roles decide what people see.

Every membership has exactly one role. The role decides which dashboard a person lands on, what appears in their sidebar, and what they can do to a patient record.

The 12 roles

RoleWho it's forScope

Note

There's also a platform-level superadmin used by the TachyDx team — it isn't a hospital role you assign.

How roles shape the app

  • Dashboards — each role opens to its own dashboard (an attending sees their patient panel; a pharmacist sees the order queue; a clerk sees the records desk).
  • Sidebar — nav items are role-gated. Nurses see Nurse Station, My Shift, MAR, Bed Map, and Handoff; doctors see My Patients / My Consults, Rounds, and on-call. Departments, Beds & Wards, Billing, Ops, and Audit Log are admin/owner only.
  • Code Blue — nurses, charge nurses, and doctors can raise a Code Blue. Pharmacists, clerks, and members cannot.
  • Members = observers — the member role has no clinical write access. It's a read-only observer that only sees the views an admin explicitly grants.

Changing someone's role

On the Members page, use the per-member actions to adjust a role. You can also set an employee code and remove someone from the team there.
